5 ways to save on Energy costs

1. Change your incandescent bulbs to Compact Flourescent Lamps.
These CFL's save you from 50% to 75% in electricity costs compared to an incandescent lightbulb of similar light output. Plus, they last 6 to 10 times longer than ordinary bulbs.

2. Plan your trip
The effort you take in planning your trip will help you save on fuel costs. Try to minimize 'emergency' trips to the supermarket just to buy a bottle of soysauce. Schedule your grocery trips, market trips, and other activities at one time.

3. Utilize human power
Instead of taking the car on a short trip to the grocery, why not consider walking or biking there? You will save up on gas and do your heart something good.

4. Unplug your TV
Leaving your TV plugged actually consumes electricity. This is true for all appliances that are Microprocessor controlled. As a guide, unplug all gadgets that does not have a manual power switch. This includes cellphone chargers, automatic touch lamps, PC's, audio equipment.

5. Consider using alternative energy sources
There are many alternative energy sources that can be tapped. Solar, wind, geothermal power, etc. Unfortunately, the Philippines is not yet a mature market for these alternative sources. As the saying goes, necessity is the mother of invention. The time for utilizing alternative energy is fast approaching.
