Bike Tech: Shifter Cable Replacement

Shifter Cables - Red

My bike turns 3 years old this year. It's but fitting to replace the shifter cables to restore the crisp shifting performance just like it was when new. After reading instructions on how to replace cables, and SRAM's technical manuals, I decided to do it myself.

Materials:

2pcs JagWire Shifter Cables
Alligator Cable Housing
Ferrules
Cable Ends

Tools:

Allen Wrench
Screwdrivers
Pliers
Cutters

Instructions:
  1. Carefully unscrew cable change cap from cable entry of the derailleur with a screwdriver
  2. Push cable out of the cable entry.
  3. Completely pull the cable out.
  4. Feed the new cable through the cable entry and out of the barrel adjuster.
  5. Attach the cable to the derailleur and adjust indexing per derailleur instruction.
The procedure can take from 30 to 45 minutes.
